About Rangoli India

On the 9th of February 1990, Mr. Mohan Kumar Jain opened the doors of Rangoli at 97 Park Street, Kolkata — one of the most storied addresses in one of India's great cities. He came to it with a singular purpose: to give Indian women access to genuinely beautiful textiles, honestly priced, presented with the knowledge and care they deserved.

There were no grand announcements. No celebrity endorsements. Just an extraordinarily curated collection of sarees — Banarasi, silk, Gadwal, Kota, Khadi, embroidery — and a reputation built, the old-fashioned way, on the quality of the product and the trust of the customer. Within a few years, that reputation had spread well beyond Park Street.

Rangoli Sarees Limited has now been at the same address for over 35 years. That does not happen by accident.

A Household Name, City by City

What began on a single street in Kolkata is today a name that women in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bengaluru and across West Bengal reach for without a second thought when there is a wedding to dress for, a Durga Puja outfit to find, or a piece of silk worth investing in.

In Kolkata, Rangoli is part of the city's ethnic wear story — the Park Street store and Gariahat store between them have dressed generations of Bengali women, from first sarees to bridal trousseaus. In Hyderabad, across our Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills stores, a discerning South Indian customer found in Rangoli something the local market had not always offered: the finest handloom weaves from the North, curated with genuine knowledge and sold without pretension. In Vijayawada and Bengaluru, the same story repeated itself. The brand travelled because the product deserved to.

This kind of recognition is not built through advertising. It is built through thirty-five years of never sending a product out the door that was not worth the price on its tag.

The Second Chapter

Mr. Nikhil Jain joined the business with a clear-eyed understanding of where Indian ethnic wear was heading — and where Rangoli needed to go to stay at the front of it. He brought a formal understanding of retail strategy to a business built on product instinct, expanding the brand's footprint across South India while building the online business that now ships to 198 countries.

Under his leadership, Rangoli evolved from a saree destination into a complete ethnic wear house — adding lehengas, salwar suits, kurtis, gowns, Indo-Western styles and a dedicated menswear brand, all while staying anchored in the quality standards the Park Street store established in 1990. The online store now carries over 1,000 products, restocked continuously and curated personally.

The instinct that has guided both generations is the same: if the product is genuinely good, everything else follows. Rangoli has never competed on price. It has always competed on quality.

What Rangoli Is

Rangoli is a Kolkata brand. That matters. Calcutta has always had a particular relationship with textile culture — a city that takes sarees seriously, that understands the difference between a machine-made imitation and a handloom original, that has generations of women who know exactly what they are looking at when they pick up a piece of silk. That is the customer Rangoli was built for, and that sensibility runs through everything we do.

We source directly from weavers and manufacturers wherever possible. This means we know where our fabrics come from, we can verify what they are, and we price them honestly — without the inflated margins that come with middleman retail. When we say a saree is pure silk, it is. When we say it is a handloom Banarasi, it is. In a market where these claims are frequently made and rarely verified, this is not a small distinction.

We are not the biggest ethnic wear retailer in India. We have never tried to be. What we have tried to be — consistently, for 35 years — is the most trusted one for customers who care about the difference.
