Puja Shopping in Kolkata: Park Street or Gariahat?
Puja shopping in Kolkata has a rhythm to it. Start too early and the new stock has not landed; leave it to the week before Shashthi and you are queueing to reach a counter. If you are planning a trip to one of our Kolkata stores, here is the honest version of what each is good for.
Park Street
Our Park Street store is the one to visit when you are buying something significant — a bridal piece, an Ashtami silk, a saree you expect to keep for twenty years.
- The Banarasi and Kanjivaram ranges are deepest here.
- Bridal and heavy occasion wear — Riwayat and the lehenga collection.
- Better for an unhurried, sit-down afternoon where things get opened out one after another.
Best time: a weekday afternoon. Park Street on a Puja Saturday is not a shopping trip, it is an expedition.
Gariahat
Our Gariahat store sits in the middle of the busiest saree market in the city, and it shops like it.
- Strong on Dhakai and handloom, cotton and linen, and everyday festive sarees.
- The right stop if you are buying four or five sarees for the family rather than one big piece.
- Easy to combine with the rest of the Gariahat market in one afternoon.
Best time: mornings, any day. By four in the afternoon in Puja season the pavement outside is a slow-moving crowd.
The other stores
We are also at Kanchrapara, and outside Bengal at Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, Jayanagar in Bengaluru and Vijayawada. Full addresses and hours are on our stores page.
Going at the right time
Working back from Shashthi on 16 October 2026:
- Early September — the best selection, no crowds, and time to get a blouse stitched properly.
- Late September — still comfortable. This is when most people actually go.
- After Mahalaya, 10 October — come only if you enjoy it. Stock is thinner and the shop is full.
What to bring
- The blouse you want it matched to, or your measurements.
- A photograph of any jewellery you plan to wear it with — gold and silver want different sarees.
- An idea of which day it is for. "Something for Ashtami" gets you better help than "a nice saree".
